Role

Stuart uses his broad range of business skills to provide management and consulting services to a variety of aerospace equipment manufacturers, developers and Airframe OEM’s. He has recently been expanding the breadth and depth of solutions ABS offers by working closely with leading system integrators. Stuart’s broad business background and extensive implementation experience provide him with the necessary skills to conduct Business Process Analyses and deliver Re-engineering solutions.

Career History

Stuart has over 25 years experience in the Aerospace industry. His leadership and strategic management experience is augmented by an impressive maintenance, engineering and operations background, with considerable experience in both hardware and software disciplines. Stuart played a key role in the development of Aircraft Information Solutions (AIS) which provide information to optimise the flight operations and maintenance processes. These solutions, including Electronic Flight Bags, Airborne File Servers and Wireless Communications, required Stuart’s team to take on significant System Integration responsibility with airframe and engine OEM’s. Additionally, a number of Maintenance Management and Safety Solutions were developed, including Airframe & Engine Condition Trend and Flight Operations Quality Assurance Systems. All of these systems provided process improvement information and were based on a platform of data acquisition, processing, recording and ground support analysis equipment.

Stuart was also instrumental in the development of the aerospace sector of a major UK plc. While developing the group through both organic and acquisitive means, Stuart led the globalisation activities harmonising working practices, business processes and linking product development, procurement and manufacturing to achieve “World Class” status. As Managing Director/President of the Global electronics and European software businesses he also took responsibility for leadership and strategic development of the group. In this International role, Stuart developed the cross-cultural leadership, communication skills and change management experience necessary to form a truly integrated global group.

More recently, Stuart has developed strategic relationships with airframe manufacturers, and operators in the Aviation Information Solutions and Maintenance Repair & Overhaul arenas, capitalising on his expanding relationships with senior executives in the industry. In this role, Stuart led the consulting group in making Operational Assessments of maintenance and engineering organisations for Military and Civil customers. His extensive Management Information Systems (MIS) implementation experience combined with his commercial and business process background proved to be an asset to him in this role. A consistent theme and indeed significant challenge was the requirement to continuously improve quality (in both service and manufacture), while concurrently reducing cost/resource and improving turn times. Stuart’s ‘team based’ leadership approach and exposure to a wide range of quality standards served to assist staff alignment / acceptance of change resulting in flow down objectives and measures of performance that created a continuous improvement culture.

Related Experience

Some years ago as Technical Director of an Avionics Equipment Manufacturer, Stuart and his team developed a range of airborne instrumentation and Pitot-Static ground support equipment.

His track record of providing innovative solutions for customers was based upon the development of Air Data Computers, Ice & Snow Detection Systems and Data Acquisition & Recording Systems for fixed wing and helicopter applications. As well being the Company Civil (CAA A8-1) and Military Design Authority (DA) and Post Design Services Officer (PDSO), additional responsibilities also included leadership and management of NAMAS accredited environmental test laboratory, Head of Quality (ISO9000 including Tickit) and JAR/FAR Accountable Manager.

Throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s Stuart worked closely with Military Services, Civil aircraft operators and Regulatory Authorities, managing programmes in the international arena as well as in the UK and US domestic markets. Stuart's professional qualifications are in Electrical & Electronic Engineering and Business Administration (MBA).
